Several US States Could Be Facing the Danger of Zika VirusIt seems that the spread of the Zika virus in different parts of the globe is inevitable. The Aedes Aegypti mosquito species which can cause you dengue fever, carries the chikungunya virus and now found to be carriers of Zika virus, are now in some parts of the United Sates. Given this, several US states could be facing the danger of Zika virus.

Birth defects in newborn babies can lead to deficiency in the brain development. This has been one of the greatest fears of women in their childbearing age. The birth defects in newborn babies have been associated to Zika virus. This speculation has stemmed from the fact that those areas affected with Zika have had a sudden increase in cases of microcephaly. Microcephaly is a genetic condition of babies born with particularly small skulls. Recently, experts are conducting studies on the concerned areas to institute the association of the Zika virus to the stated birth defect.

According to Benjamin Haynes, spokesperson for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), species of the Aedes mosquitoes have indeed reached the U. S. mainland and there is positive indication of infection and the fact that several US states could be facing the danger of Zika virus. “But CDC is not able to predict how much Zika virus would spread in the continental United States,” Haynes added.

Georgia is one of those several states in the US that is in danger of Zika virus. Although there have been no reports of mosquito-transmitted cases in Georgia yet, it will only take just a few more time until local mosquitoes will be infected by those that travelled in an infected area and returned with the Zika virus.
